MODERN & GEOMETRIC

A modern identity for a new era of women's sports

This project reimagines the identity of the Columbus Fury, a team within Major League Volleyball, to better reflect the rising visibility and empowerment of women’s professional sports. While the league is still establishing itself, its team identities lack visual cohesion and a shared modern presence. The original Columbus Fury logo relied on a generic female figure and lightning symbolism, which did not fully reflect the mythological intensity of a Fury. To better align with its origins, I redefined the identity around snakes, an authentic symbol of the Fury. Using snakes, I created a geometric mark that conveys power, transformation, and precision while visually referencing the form of a volleyball.

This rebrand was guided by a strategic reevaluation of the team’s Focus, Difference, and Trend (FDT). The revised focus emphasizes city pride and women’s professional empowerment, maintaining the team’s local color palette. The difference centers on establishing a women-first franchise through a dual-identity logo system, providing flexibility across digital, merchandise, and environmental applications. Beyond the individual team, this dual-identity approach also proposes a scalable framework that the league itself could adopt, creating a unifying visual language across all teams. Inspired by emerging identity systems like the Omaha Supernovas, this structure positions Major League Volleyball for long-term brand cohesion and growth.

The result is a modern, symbolic identity that strengthens both the Columbus Fury’s individual presence and the potential visual future of the league as a whole.
